Karen Glenn is the Chief Actuary at the Social Security Administration. Before joining SSA in 2008, Karen worked for over a decade as a consulting actuary on private pension plans.
Karen and her team conduct actuarial analyses of the Social Security and Supplemental Security Income programs, including proposed changes to those programs. They evaluate operations of the Social Security Trust Funds, conduct studies of program financing, project future program workloads, and perform actuarial, demographic, and economic research on social insurance and related issues. They provide technical and consultative services to the Commissioner of Social Security, to the Board of Trustees of the Social Security Trust Funds, and to Members of Congress and their staffs.
Karen holds an A.B. in mathematics from Amherst College and an M.A. in mathematics from The Johns Hopkins University. She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary, and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and the National Academy of Social Insurance.
