John Robinson FSA, FCA, MAAA was the 74th President of the Society of Actuaries, 2022-2023, and is President & Chief Actuary of Robinson Associates LLC, an actuarial consulting firm located in Apple Valley, MN. The firm currently provides pension valuation services to one city in Minnesota. On July 30, 2021, John retired from the Minnesota Department of Commerce, where he served for five years as a life insurance regulator. Prior to moving to Minnesota, John was Chief Actuary at Capital Region BOCES in Albany, NY, where he provided services to 130 public entities, primarily school districts, throughout the State of New York. John’s ability to explain a complex topic in terms that can be easily understood was much appreciated by his clients. In addition, John earned a reputation for being approachable by all levels of school districts’ staffs. Prior to joining the BOCES, John spent over twenty-three years in the life insurance industry, twenty of which were spent at Nationwide Financial in Columbus, OH. At Nationwide, John chaired the Actuarial Diversity Committee for nine years. His involvement in Diversity has continued into the global actuarial arena; he played a key role in creating the Diversity Conference as part of the quadrennial International Congress of Actuaries. John considers volunteering an important part of his professional life. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Society of Actuaries, the world’s largest actuarial organization. In addition, he volunteers regularly as an exam grader for the Society of Actuaries. He is a past president of the International Association of Black Actuaries (IABA). John holds a B.Sc. (Special) in Mathematics from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, and an M.S. in Statistics from the Florida State University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries (FCA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
