Rob Nation is a Senior Director in Optum’s Provider Actuarial Services team. He has over 15 years experience as a healthcare actuary working with providers, employers, commercial and government payers. His current experience includes consulting with provider organizations regarding COVID-19 modeling, emerging value-based reimbursement models, and leading a long-term engagement with a nationally recognized academic medical center, bringing Optum’s analytics and subject-matter expertise to support their population health-based initiatives.

Recently he has led several actuarial and strategic engagements with prominent health systems with a deep knowledge of value-based care arrangements, clinical analytics, and provider growth strategies. Engagements include setting organizational goals for clinical quality and financial targets, benchmarking analyses, and Medicare program feasibility analyses.

Before joining Optum, he focused on bundled payment programs and other provider reimbursement strategies. His previous experience includes leading a large portfolio of projects for CMS and other government organizations, including responsibility for budget oversight and staff management. He also has experience with traditional actuarial functions such as rate setting, provider contracting, plan design impact analyses, reserve estimations and benchmarking analyses.

Rob has a BSBA in Actuarial Science/Finance from Drake University is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
