Andy is a Director in Grant Thornton’s National Wealth & Human Capital Solutions practice, has been with the firm for almost 9 years, and has more than 15 years of experience as an actuary and a broad based retirement consultant with significant experience within the private and public sectors, including governmental plans. He supports all aspects of retirement plan and actuarial consulting work for all regions in the United States. Andy serves as the managing actuary and consultant for his clients and works with the actuarial team on consulting projects and with their support of the firm’s Audit and Advisory practices, in which they perform detailed reviews of pension plans, retiree medical plans and/or insurance reserves, IBNR, etc. for corporate and/or plan audits and with financial due diligence with the buy or sell sides of possible mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Andy served as a Senior Consultant and Consulting Actuary with Buck Consultants for 8 years. He led teams of actuaries and consultants who performed all related tasks involved in private and public sector pension valuations, including minimum funding requirements, gain/loss analysis, Form 5500 filings, PBGC premiums and financial statement footnote disclosures according to relevant FASB and GASB accounting standards. He also has vast experience with projections of liabilities, assets and contribution requirements, periodic experience studies to review actuarial assumptions and measuring the impact of changes in plan provisions, actuarial assumptions and/or actuarial methods. Andy has also served on teams for numerous special consulting projects, such as actuarial audits and compliance reviews of large state retirement systems.

Andy has also worked on private and public sector post-retirement medical (OPEB) valuations, where he collaborated with health care actuaries to value the liabilities, calculate the contribution requirements and all related FASB and GASB financial statement disclosures. Additionally, he has assisted clients with retiree medical plan design and cost analyses.
