NANCY E. BENNETT has served as the Arizona State Retirement System’s chief financial officer for 10.5 years. In her capacity as CFO, Nancy oversees the collection of approximately $2.0 billion in member contributions, the payment of approximately $2.8 billion in retirement benefits, the maintenance of financial and demographic data for over 500,000 members and the imaging and maintenance of over 14 million documents related to those members. In addition, she oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger maintenance and the preparation of the agency’s comprehensive annual financial report. Prior to joining the ASRS, she worked approximately eight years for the city of Scottsdale and held several financial positions there. In addition to her government experience, Nancy has worked in both public accounting and the banking industry. Nancy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a Master of Business degree from Arizona State University. She has been a certified public accountant since 1986. Nancy is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Government Finance Officers Association, the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Government Finance Officers Association of Arizona and Public Pension Financial Forum (P2F2). In her spare time, Nancy volunteers with the non-profit agency, Aid to Adoption of Special Kids and serves as a mentor to young adults who have aged out of the state foster care system.
