Matthew P. McCarthy is a Vanguard principal and head of the Institutional Sales team in Vanguard Institutional Investor Group. Prior to his current role, Mr. McCarthy was head of the Education Savings Group in Vanguard Retail Investor Group and was a senior manager in Vanguard Corporate Strategy. Before joining Vanguard in 2008, Mr. McCarthy worked as a management consultant at Bain & Company in Boston, serving corporate clients and private equity investors in a wide variety of industries. Prior to Bain & Company, Mr. McCarthy served in the United States Army as a military intelligence officer, during which time he was deployed to Germany, Korea, and the Middle East. His service included duties as platoon leader, executive officer, and company commander. Mr. McCarthy earned a B.S. at The United States Military Academy and an M.B.A. at Harvard Business School.
