Gene is CEO and a founding partner of Cheiron, Inc., a national actuarial consulting firm headquartered in Washington, DC. For over 30 years, Gene has been one of the nation’s leading advisors to multi-billion dollar jointly-trusteed pension funds in both the public and private sectors. He has served as plan actuary to many such funds and is often retained as a specialist to help them address complex funding issues. He is an occasional witness before Congressional committees and regularly addresses state and local legislative bodies and boards of trustees of pension funds. Gene and his colleagues at Cheiron have gained a national reputation for designing highly innovative interactive pension funding models to assist public sector pension clients in their strategic and tactical planning efforts. In the public sector, he has had extensive experience working for the statewide retirement systems in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, and Pennsylvania. In addition, he has been retained by many large local public pension funds, in Detroit, Kansas City Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and St. Louis. In the private industry, he has had extensive experience with many large Taft-Hartley pension funds, including UFCW funds, several of the largest Teamsters (IBT) funds, the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees funds (HEREIU), International Association Machinists, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), and Steelworkers pension funds. Gene began his career as an actuary at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). Soon after, he joined Milliman in opening their Washington, DC practice and assumed various leadership positions in the firm during his twenty plus years there. In 2002 Gene and several of his colleagues at Milliman formed Cheiron.
