According to recent Medicare Trustees reports, Part A, the part that we pay for while working, is only fully funded for about the next decade. And, Parts B and D, which are primarily funded through federal income taxes on a pay-as-you-go basis, are projected to take up a growing share of federal spending. Health care costs have moderated somewhat in recent years but will these trends continue and what effect will they have on the sustainability of the Medicare program?
